Glock 19 Vs Glock 23 - Often outclassed by the much more popular Glock 19, the superior caliber Glock 23 still has plenty to offer the discerning shooter. While it may not be as easy to handle as the 19, the Glock 23 uses .40 caliber pistol ammo, offering much more stopping power.
The power boost is the main reason police departments across the country assign the G23 over the G19, but the weapon's advantages aren't just for those in uniform.
Glock 19 Vs Glock 23
Loaded with .40 caliber ammo, the Glock 23 offers a solid compromise between the ease of use of the Glock 19 and the stopping power of larger calibers.

While seemingly identical to the Glock 19 when you first hold it, the Glock 23 stands out as soon as you pull the trigger. Using 0.40-inch rounds adds a millimeter of diameter to each bullet, and the effect on recoil is immediately noticeable.
Despite the noticeable increased recoil, which I'll discuss in depth later, the firearm remains as accurate as any other Glock I've used.
The Glock 23 comes with a three-point plastic sight (one front, two rear). As a dummy weapon, the original scopes do the job just fine, but I would definitely recommend getting some replacement scopes, especially if you plan on using the firearm in low-light conditions.
Glock has a well-deserved reputation for making guns you can trust your life with, and the Glock 23 is no exception. This gun will fire just about anything you put in it with no complaints.

When using my weapon, it did not show any defects. This seems to match every other Glock I've owned and used over the years, so I'm not the least bit surprised.
One thing that concerns me is how the larger caliber can increase the wear on the gun compared to the 9mm on a Glock 19. Either way, time will tell, and so far Glock pistols have stood the test of time.
As mentioned earlier, the Glock 23 is physically identical to the Glock 19, having the exact same dimensions and empty weight.
Like the Glock 19, the G23 is big enough to handle well, with a comfortable 4-inch barrel. Sights are easy to align and the pistol's simple, practical design makes it easy to hold and handle.

The Glock 23 has a trigger safety system, which requires a full purchase to pull the trigger. It does not include a manual safety, which is part of its design as a defensive weapon.
While I support any feature in a firearm that reduces the risk of accidental discharge, I appreciate the simple yet effective design of a trigger safety.
If you're in a situation where you're forced to defend yourself, you won't have time to check a manual safety, and the Glock 23's Trigger Safety was designed with that situation in mind. In the end, the best security is situational awareness and discipline.
The reason the Glock 23 was designed was to recreate a pistol that was just as reliable and usable as the Glock 19, but chambered in a larger caliber, the .40 cartridge. Therefore, the 23 magazine has less ammunition (13) compared to the Glock 19 (15 ammunition).

A feature of the Glock 23 is the interchangeable magazine release handle, which you can move to whichever side is most comfortable for you. While not as straightforward as an ambidextrous version, this feature is still nice for the lefties out there.
The size and shape of the Glock 23 is identical to the Glock 19. It measures 7.36" x 5.04" x 1.26" overall, with the Glock's "signature" case shape.
Empty weight is 21.16 ounces, the same as the G19, while a loaded magazine makes the G23 a little heavier by comparison.
The Glock 23 is smaller and lighter than the Glock 22, which uses the same .40 caliber rounds in a larger frame and magazine. This makes it better suited for concealed carry while maintaining the accuracy and stopping power of a loaded pistol.

The Glock 23's recoil is what really sets it apart from the Glock 19, for me.
23 has significant twist in the muzzle as the steel slide moves back and then forward into place. This made it harder for me to quickly align the crosshairs after a shot and it took me a while to get used to it.
I think there are some downsides to a steel blade in a polymer frame, and this is one of them. The muzzle flip really worked my wrist all day and was something that surprised me when using a gun identical to the Glock 19.
However, in a defensive situation, the additional stopping power of the .40 caliber bullet should more than compensate for the lower rate of fire of the Glock 23.
Glock 19 Vs 23
In terms of price, the Glock 23 is definitely a step up from the Glock 19 in terms of weapon and ammo.
With an MSRP of $600, the Glock 23 is still pretty affordable. .40 caliber ammo, however, will cost at least twice as much as buying 9mm rounds. That said, there isn't another bullet as cheap and plentiful as the 9mm, so it's not the fairest comparison.
The Glock 19 is popular for a reason: cheap, easy to use and widely available, the Glock has become a household name.
But in real combat, 9mm ammunition fell short, which is why the .40 S&W was invented for American officers.

Compared to the 19, the Glock 23 is more expensive and more difficult to use. But those drawbacks come with a much-needed increase in stopping power, making this pistol an incredibly effective choice as a service pistol.
As a privateer, you will find that the Glock 23 serves as the perfect choice for a practical weapon for home defense or everyday carry. The reliability and ease of use of a Glock with a larger caliber bullet make it a great tool for self-defense.

What's The Difference Between Glock 17, Glock 19, & Glock 26
In a recent article, we compared two Glock pistols, both chambered for .40 S&W, in an effort to help our readers decide which would be best for them. We pitted the larger and slightly more accurate Glock 22 against the slightly smaller but more easily hidden Glock 23.
We have determined that, except for a few usage scenarios where the Glock 22 will be appropriate, the Glock 23 will be the superior choice in most situations.
But what if we compare the Glock 23 to another Glock pistol that has the exact same specs but is reserved for the smaller and faster 9x19mm Parabellum (commonly called the 9mm)? Will the Glock 23 stay on top?
The .355 caliber round commonly referred to today as the 9mm or "9 mill" has been around for over a century. Since its introduction in Germany in 1902, it has been used in numerous wars and has been fitted to numerous pistols and submachine guns (SMGs).

Its popularity has never waned, and to this day law enforcement and militaries in most countries still use it in their sidearms and SMGs, a testament to its effectiveness. Here are some of the reasons:
The tables above show that both the Glock 19 and Glock 23 use the same frame size, so almost everything on both is the same.
Concealment shouldn't be an issue for either of these pistols, but if you want to know what the best CCW holster options are, check out this comprehensive list of holsters we've created.
The only real differences between the two are the calibers they use and the maximum number of rounds that can be loaded in their respective magazines.

The Glock 19 comes with two 15-round cartridges, while the Glock 23 comes with two 13-round cartridges.
There really isn't much of a difference between 15 9mm rounds and 13 .40 S&W rounds. For years, both have proven effective for self-defense.
Even if you're facing a crowd of, say, five to six people intent on disemboweling you (which is highly unlikely unless you're in the army or police), 15 9mm rounds or 13 rounds of 0.40 S&W is enough firepower. You can always reload with a new magazine in case you need more.
